To know whether a lady is pregnant or not a pregnancy test is done. Lady can do this at home also, for which many of pregnancy test kits are available in the market. These tests can be blood test or a urine test. The pregnancy test kits look for a specific chemical in the urine or blood. Home test are done with urine. In pregnancy test kit few drops of urine are needed and an indicator in the kit gives an indication of pregnancy.
In these tests, mainly a chemical called HCG that is human Chorionic gonadotropin is identified for pregnancy. Pregnancy tests are of two types; one is quantitative test, which measures the exact amount of human Chorionic gonadotropin in the blood. Another type of test is called qualitative test, which gives the indication in simple Yes or No.
The lady can do the urine test at home by using these pregnancy test kits. These tests are 96% accurate if the lady follows correctly the instruction needed for the test. But sometimes these tests give negative result if the lady is already pregnant. The human Chorionic gonadotropin chemical is detected after 6 to 12 days. However, the blood test is more accurate than urine test.
